What Does "Discovering" Mean to Me?

What Does ‘Discovery’ Mean?
Mr. May asked us to think about what discovery means. Discovery means traveling to very far places around the world. It also means learning things I never knew before. In my drawing, I drew me in a poor country. I interviewed all the people and asked them what changes they wanted. This is what discovery means to me.

What Makes an Effective Professional Arcade Game? The game I played to find out what makes a professional arcade game is called Javonid. The name of the company is Camadro, Inc. You play Javonid by using the left and right arrow keys to control the platform. [SPACE] or [CTRL] launches the ball or shoots it. Try not to let the ball go below the platform. You win the game by destroying all the blocks. If you win the game you play again. The rules of the game are listed in list form below the game. My opinion is that the rating of this game is a 2 out of 4 star rating.
The materials I need to build this game are cardboard, tape, balls, tickets, and bells. To build this game cost $150.00; also, to buy this game costs $300.00. You can find Javonid at this URL:

Design Brief
What is the Concept Design of My Crusie Arcade Game?
We created this arcade game called Sport 4. The instructions of the game are going to be found on the side. For the first game level, you shoot a hockey puck and try to score a goal using a hockey stick. For the second game level, you shoot a bouncy ball into a basketball hoop and try to score. For the third level, you flick a soccer ball into the hockey net, on the fourth game level you role a bouncy ball and try to get it in a hockey goal at a medium speed while stuff is being throw at it. The rules of the game will be displayed on the side of the game. Out of a one-to-four star rating the game is a 4 star rating. You win the game by completing all four levels. If you win the game you get a prize and get to play again.

The top view of our blueprint shows the labels and the top of our game. The side view shows the basketball hoop and bell. The front view shows everything inside the box.

The materials we will need are tape, cardboard, mini hockey stick, goal, goalie pads, a shoe box, can, number stickers, tabs, scissors, and Styrofoam. This game will most likely take five days to build. A problem we foresee is trying to keep our creation standing.

What were the Results of Testing Our Game?
Examiner: Mr. Holgate

Date: 1/30/2013

Praise: A good game idea because you get to play four games. I like how it is compact and easy to under- stand.

Question: Could you change some of your game to make them more different? Could you make your prize option more clear?

Polish: Make so you don’t lose if you fail on one task. Let people have more than one turn.

Student Comment: Thank you, we added four games to Sport 4 to keep the customer amused. Yes, I can change the game, and we did. Everyone loved the different levels. On our rules we added that we give tickets only. Also, I made the adjustment to give the player more chances to win our game with tickets!
Examiner: Mrs. Witter

Date: 1/28/13

Praise: I like the variety of sports in your arcade game. The prize of another chance to play the game is a clever idea.

Question: Why do you need the manual (you throwing the pennies) interference with the ball going into the goal?

Polish: Could you write your directions more clearly or print them so they are easier to read?

Student Comment: Thank you so much for your comments about our game, Sport4. I will change the directions to make them more clear and print them out.
Examiner: Mrs. Andrews

Date: 1/30/13

Praise: What a neat idea! I think the layout works for what you are trying to create. You designed it in a thoughtful way.

Question: How will players know what to do next? What could you do to improve your directions?

Polish: Think about being clearer about the sequence of your game and the rules about each level. I would suggest writing right to help visual thinkers. Use colors!

Student Comment: Thank you so much for your comments about Sport4. I also said this project is a neat idea, and we made this in a very thoughtful way! I liked when I saw all those happy kids playing our game, and this project took lots of thinking. I think we could change our directions by making them clearer, but we tried our best to make our directions clear. Yes, you are right, we should label the game for visual kids.

Make It Better
How Can We Make the Crusie Arcade Game Better?

Reflection on Project

What can we do to improve our Arcade Creation?

I could add lots of colors for visual kids and make the directions more clear.

Specifically, how would we do this?

Reflection on Process

What did you learn to do with the Crusie Arcade Project?

I learned to think and plan ahead to know what I am doing.

What do you know now that you didn’t know before doing the Project?

I did not know I had to plan ahead to be sure about what I am doing.

What can you do know that you couldn’t before doing this project?

Now I can think a lot more about what I am planning to do.

What did you like about the project that helped your learning?

I like this project because it taught me to think a lot more about what I am planning to do.

What could have been done differently to help your learning?

Nothing.

A Final Reflection:

The thing we can change to make our game, Sport4, better is to give prizes instead of tickets. Also we need to make our game more colorful for visual gamers. In addition to that we need to make our rules and directions clearer to the gamer. The thing I learned during the process of the project is to plan ahead before I do something. The thing I can do now that I could not do before is to think a lot more on what I am planning to do. I also liked this project because it taught me to work together in group tasks. Also, I could not have done anything differently to help my learning.
